Drinking Water Source Protection Stewardship
Subject: Drinking Water Source Protection Stewardship Program
The Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program Early Actions
Funding is available for 2008-2009. If you are a landowner whose
property is within or extends into the 2-year time-of-travel around
a municipal well, or the IPZ-1 (intake protection zone one) around
a municipal surface water intake, you may be eligible for funding.
Funding on upgrading septic systems or wells is up to 80% of the
cost depending on the project. Visit www.waterprotection.ca to
review maps of eligible areas or call 1-877-470-3001 and ask for
Steacy or Karen to learn more and determine if you are eligible.
The actions taken on your property can benefit you and protect
your municipal supply of drinking water.
All residents can become water stewards by conserving water
around the home and yard, collecting rain water for yard use,
maintaining septic systems and having well water sampled three
times per year for free through the health unit if you have a private
well. Protecting water supplies by keeping hazardous household
chemicals and fuels out of drains and storm sewers are also good
ways to keep water clean and reduce the amount of treatment.
Working together we can all protect drinking water sources for
today and tomorrow!
