IODE Canada is a national woman's charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the
quality of life for individuals through education support, community service and citizenship
programs.
Woman and Child Sculpture by Laszlo Zsolnai,
Stone Foundation provided by Wiarton Stone Quarry.
Since 1952 more than a thousand women from Wiarton and surrounding area have
worked together in the White Cloud Chapter of IODE, a national women's charitable
organization, to help women and children achieve educational and quality of life goals.
Funds are raised from current events such as an annual Strawberry Fair, House Tours and
Card Parties. In the past, presentations of dramatic and comedic plays and fashion shows
were among initiatives. All funds raised have benefited local schools through scholarships
and bursaries. As well, donations are made to libraries, hospitals, nursing homes and
other service clubs. Citizenship awards are an ongoing program.
Current President Pat Caldwell, together with Charter Regent Irene Gildner dedicated the
sculpture to past, present and future members on July 18, 2009.
