Ontario Heritage Act - Sauble Falls Bridge

IN THE MATTER OF THE ONTARIO
HERITAGE ACT
R.S.O. 1990 CHAPTER 0.18 AND
SAUBLE FALLS BRIDGE BUILT 1929/30
NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DESIGNATE

Take notice that the Town of South Bruce Peninsula intends to designate the reinforced
concrete and steel bridge structure erected at Sauble Falls in 1929/30 under Part IV of the
Ontario Heritage Act.

Reasons for Designation:
The Sauble Falls Bridge is of heritage value as an early example of access across a
waterway. The bridge built by Theodore Seaman, replaced the original wooden structure
and foot bridge both of which faced washouts during severe weather events. The bridge
structure serves as a reminder of a thriving 1900's settlement consisting of a sawmill,
hydro electric plant and logging interests, all dependant on the Sauble River.

A description of the heritage attributes are available for viewing from the Clerks Office
or under the "Notice" section of the Town's website at www.southbrucepeninsula.com.

Notice of any objection to the proposed designation may be served on the Town Clerk,
315 George Street, P.O. Box 310, Wiarton, Ontario N0H 2T0 within thirty days of the
23rd of September, 2006.

The notice must set out the reason(s) for the objection and all relevant facts.

Dated at the Town of South Bruce Peninsula this 23rd day of September, 2006.
